Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro broke a 31-year-old Bundesliga record with his hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Leverkusen on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old became the oldest player in German top-flight history to score three goals in a match, surpassing former Bremen ace Manfred Burgsmuller, who had held the record since 1985.
Pizarro, who is in his third spell at the Weserstadion, has now set his sights on topping the club’s all-time scoring charts.
Bremen legend Marco Bode sits at the top of that list with 101 league goals, but Peru international Pizarro is just two shy of that target following his exploits in midweek.
“I’m sorry, Marco! But I’ll try to break your record!” he wrote on Twitter after the match.
