Van Gaal: Mourinho rumours ‘an absolute scandal’

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has bemoaned the constant speculation over his future, and has branded rumours linking Jose Mourinho with the Old Trafford hotseat as ‘an absolute scandal’.

The former Netherlands coach has been forced to content with fevered speculation over his position at the club, with every disappointing result seemingly followed by a fresh batch of rumours.

The rumour mill has subsided somewhat after Van Gaal steered his side into the FA Cup quarter-finals and the last 16 of the Europa League.

And the 64-year-old has now taken the opportunity to hit back, telling Dutch television channel RTL7: “(Mourinho) has said things a number of times with a lot of words.

“But he does not have to tell me anything. I find the whole thing ridiculous.

“No, I don’t want United to do something either. I don’t even want them to react to things which I read in the media or which are being created.

“We, the club and I, are not going to help the media right now by denying things.

“I think what is happening is an absolute scandal.”
