Excelsior trumped N.E.C. 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Tom van Weert at the Stadion Woudestein on Friday.
The Excelsior hitman steered his side to victory at home after goals in the 13th and 81st minute.
The visitors were the first to get a decent look at goal in the fifth minute after a shot from Navarone Foor flew wide of the mark.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 13th minute when Van Weert put the ball past goalkeeper Brad Jones with a strike from outside the box.
Christian Santos and Foor had two quick chances in succession before the interval for NEC but lacked the precision to beat Excelsior goalkeeper Tom Muyters.

The home side had a chance to double their lead when Jeff Stans misplaced the ball after a perfect pass from teammate Brandley Kuwas.
