Payet unfazed by France snub

West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet has revealed he is unfazed by his omission from Didier Deschamps’ latest France squad.

The midfielder insists he is fully focused on his performances with the Hammers and helping them qualify for next season’s Europa League through a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.

Payet has been West Ham’s stand-out player this season since his summer move from Marseille. He bagged a brace in their 5-1 win over Blackburn in the FA Cup, including another brilliant free kick, taking his goal tally for the season to nine.

However, his domestic form has not been able to convince Deschamps to call him up for France because he believes Payet doesn’t play as well for his country as he does for West Ham.

The midfielder is seemingly unfazed by the decision, though. “I’m so happy at West Ham I don’t want to spoil my enjoyment by getting bothered at being left out,” he told the Evening Standard.

“I’m living a boyhood dream. I’m being rewarded for my hard work and getting recognition for the way I play in the toughest league in Europe.”
