Mourinho in the dark on United switch

Jose Mourinho has said that he does not know if he will replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss ahead of the 2016/17 season.

The former Chelsea manager has been heavily linked to the position, with Van Gaal under increasing pressure as United’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League dwindle.

It was reported earlier this month that Mourinho’s representatives had been in negotiations with the Old Trafford hierarchy, but speaking at a charity event in Singapore, the Portuguese said he was unsure about whether his future lies in Manchester.

Asked if he would be replacing Van Gaal, the former Porto boss responded: “That’s the one million dollar question.”

He added: “Nobody knows and I am the first one not to know. I read so many different things.”

The 53-year-old is confident that he will be back in management next season and has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid or Inter Milan.

“Starting next season with a new club and project is probably the best for me,” he said.
