Iranian side Tractorzazi Tabriz hammered Al Jazira of the UAE 4-0 in their Group C clash in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday at Yadegar Emam Stadium.
The home side took control very early in the game when they scored twice in the opening ten minutes.
The opener was scored in the fourth minute through Bakhtiar Rahmani and in the ninth minute they scored again via a Shoja Khalilzadeh header. Two more goals followed in the second half through Mehdi Sharifi in the 54th minute and Rahmani scored his second of the match five minutes later.
The result means Tractorsazi are on top of the standings following Pakhtakor and Al Hilal’s 2-2 draw in the other Group C match.
In the fourth minute, Farzad Hatami headed a cross into the path of Rahmani for him to give his side the lead with a shot from close.
The score was doubled five minutes later when Khalilzadeh scored with a header from Soroush Rafiei’s corner to make it 2-0.
Jazira nearly pulled a goal back in the 15th minute when Kenwyne Jones hammered his shot over the bar from inside the area.
Seven minutes after the restart, Jones thought he had scored but the goal was ruled offside.
From a long throw in, Khaled Shafiei had his header blocked on the goal line by Salim Rashid but the rebound fell to Sharifi who scored at the back post in the 54th minute to put his side 3-0 up.
The fourth goal came about when Rahmani got the ball away from defender Fares Juma and then quickly ran towards the goal to score past Khaseif from the edge of the area for his second goal of the match.
In the dying seconds of the game, Tractorsazi should have scored again when Hatami put Sharifi through on goal but he chipped over the bar to miss a great chance.
