A late free-kick from Al Nassr’s Hussain Abdulghani rescued a point for the International as they played out to a 3-3 draw against Uzbekistan’s Bunyodkor in an action-packed AFC Champions League Group B opener.
Bunyodkor got off to a blistering start as they found themselves two goals to the good inside 33 minutes courtesy of fine work from Dostonbek Khamdamov and Chaker Zouaghi, coupled with below average goalkeeping from Abdullah Al Enezi.
Al Nassr hit back on the stroke of half-time after Adrian Mierzejewski converted from the penalty spot.
Khamdamov looked to have sealed the win for the men from Uzbekistan when he restored their two-goal cushion with a top shot from just inside the Al Nassr penalty area after 76 minutes.
However, Al Nassr refused to lie down and gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Yahya Al Shehri found the back of the net from long range just before the 80 minute mark.
Five minutes later veteran Abdulghani guided a sweetly struck free-kick past Al Enezi to level matters at 3-3.
The Swallows manager Ioannis Topalidis will be bitterly disappointed with only a point as his side were unable to close out the game after twice holding a two-goal advantage.
Despite this, there is plenty for the former Greek footballer to be positive about as his side have now avoided defeat in seven games across all competitions.
