Luciano Pereira netted a brace for Sepahan in front of the club’s adoring home fans as they beat Al Nasr 2-0 in the opening fixture of their AFC Champions League campaign.
The Brazilian scored his first goal after just 14 minutes of play as he slammed in a right-footed power shot from well outside the box.
His second came after 51 minutes when he nodded home a header from close range.
Al Nasr simply could not get going and struggled to create genuine chances as Sepahan did well to close out the game in clinical fashion after assuming a two-goal advantage.
In truth, the score line could have been far worse for the team from the United Arab Emirates. Hossein Fazeli and Mohammadreza Khalatbari both missed relatively easy chances in the first half and second half respectively.
The win sees the Iranian outfit jump to the summit of Group A as Al-Ittihad FC and Lok. Tashkent drew earlier in the day.
Yellow Lions manager Igor Stimac will be extremely relieved with the result as his side have failed to register a victory in their last nine Persian Gulf Pro League outings.
