BVB Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been ruled out for at least three weeks after injuring his abuctor muscle on Sunday.
The 27-year-old was part of the team that beat Leverkusen 1-0, but was replaced 13 minutes from time after picking up the injury.
Scans on Monday revealed that Papastathopoulos will be out for around three weeks and will therefore miss BVB Dortmund’s Europa League round of 32 second leg tie against Porto Thursday.
BVB take a 2-0 lead into the deciding tie and will be confident of progressing despite Papastathopoulos’ absence, but he will also miss several important league matches, including their home game against Bayern München on 5 March.
Thomas Tuchel’s men are currently eight points behind the Bavarians in the league table and defeat in that match would all but guarantee Bayern’s fourth straight Bundesliga crown.
In addition, the defender will miss matches against TSG Hoffenheim, Darmstadt and Mainz 05.
