Wolfsburg fine Bendtner over social media post

VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed striker Nicklas Bendtner has been slapped with a fine after posting a picture of himself standing next to a Mercedes.

The Bundesliga outfit are sponsored by Volkswagen, and due to their arrangement the club’s players and employees are banned from travelling to and from training in cars made by rival manufacturers.

Bendtner recently took to Instagram to post an image of himself standing next to Mercedes S-class, a move that has angered the club’s principal sponsors.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs said: “This is a misbehaviour and in the end it will cost money.”

The 28-year-old Denmark international has made just four starts in the Bundesliga this season, with a further nine appearances coming from the substitutes bench.

This is not the first time Bendtner has been fined for an incident of this nature. He was fined £80,000 and suspended for one international match after wearing sponsored underwear during a Euro 2012 fixture against Portugal.
