Brazil legend Ronaldo has backed compatriot Neymar to one day take over from Lionel Messi as the best player in the world.
Neymar is already considered one of the best football players of his generation, but he will be the first to admit that he is still a level or two behind Argentina and Barcelona great Messi.
The 24-year-old, who helped Barca to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble last season, finished third behind Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2015 Ballon d’Or.
However, many believe it is only a matter of time before he wins his first Ballon d’Or and World Cup winner Ronaldo sees no reason why he can’t match Messi as a player.
“I like Neymar a lot. He is a bit like me,” Ronaldo told Calciomercato. “He had some difficulties in getting used to his new environment at first, but I knew that he was going to succeed.
“Can he be Messi’s heir? Yes, he has everything he needs to become as strong as him.”
