Goals from Rick Dekker and Lars Veldwijk fired PEC Zwolle to a 2-0 victory over ADO Den Haag at Kyocera Stadion on Friday evening.
The hosts dominated first-half proceedings, but were let down by a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
Efforts from Edouard Duplan, Ludcinio Marengo and Aaron Meijers failed to find the mark in what was quickly becoming a one-sided affair.
However, PEC Zwolle grew in confidence as the half wore on and lodge their first effort on goal in the 43rd minute, although Thomas Lam could not direct his effort on target.
The visitors got the breakthrough they were looking for just one minute later, though, as Rick Dekker found the top-right corner with a shot from the centre of the box.
While goal-scoring chances were at a premium in the first half, that was most certainly not the case after the half-time break.
ADO Den Haag started brightly, creating two chances in quick succession in the opening ten minutes. However, efforts from Kevin Jansen and Edouard Duplan failed to hit the mark.
Zwolle eventually hit back with two chances of their own, with Wouter Marinus and Queensy Menig going close to doubling the visitors’ advantage.
It was the hosts who ended the second half on the front foot, though, as they went in search of an equaliser.
However, in their quest to draw level in the closing stages of the contest, ADO Den Haag were caught on the break in the first minute of injury time, Lars Veldwijk slotting home from a tight angle to put the result beyond any doubt.
