VfL Wolfsburg defender Sebastian Jung has been ruled out for the remainder of the season as the result of a knee injury.
The 25-year-old tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Wolfsburg’s 3-2 win over Gent in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
Jung is expected to be out of action until August at the earliest and may even miss the start of his side’s 2016/17 campaign.
“The injury is very bitter for us and Sebi. We wish him a speedy recovery,” head coach Dieter Hecking told the club’s official website.
Jung, who has represented Wolfsburg in 16 games in all competitions this season, expressed his disappointment at the injury and said he hopes to be back on the pitch sooner rather than later.
“I’d planned a lot for the second half of the season and now must digest the shock that I cannot help the team achieve our goals,” he said. “I’ll do everything in order to be healthy and on the pitch again as soon as possible.”
