Nagatomo snubbed United to stay put

Internazionale full-back Yuto Nagatomo has revealed that Manchester United attempted to sign him during the January transfer window.

An injury crisis has left Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal short of defensive options on the flanks, with Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young all currently on the sidelines.

Nagatomo has done an admirable job for Inter manager Roberto Mancini this season, starting nine Serie A games and making another two appearances off the bench.

And the Japan international claims he received an offer from United last month, but he remains committed to the Nerazzurri's cause as they look to claim their first Scudetto in six years.

"I like everything about Inter, I want to stay here and renew my contract," Nagatomo told the club's TV channel.

"I turned down an offer from Manchester United, as my desire is to stay here. I have an excellent rapport with Roberto Mancini.

"I love Italy. I've been here for five years now and I feel at home. Hopefully, when I finish my career, I can stay in Italy.

"This season is my best spell at Inter. We have a great group here and I get on well with everyone."
