Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon were the favourites to win Everton’s Goal of the Month for January, but the pair have been beaten to the punch by a nine-year-old.
Young George Shaw scored his goal at Goodison Park at half-time of the Toffees’ game against Swansea City. Shaw, who has cerebral palsy, was invited onto the pitch by Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu after the Spaniard had seen a video of Shaw practicing while wearing his number 19 ‘Deulofeu’ shirt.
“George is amazing,” said Deulofeu. “To have my shirt on is special. He’s in my heart.”
Shaw is in the hearts of many more after scoring his goal in front of the Gwladys Street End.

Great goal, George. And nice work Everton. In the high stakes world of professional football such acts of kindness are a timely reminder of the fans that power the sport we love.
