Klopp admits Sturridge injury concern

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Daniel Sturridge is a doubt for Sunday's game against Southampton with a knee injury.

The striker missed last weekend's clash against Tottenham after taking a knock in training and sat out the Europa League draw against Rubin Kazan on Thursday.

In his press conference ahead of Sunday's game, Klopp conceded Sturridge will need to have another scan and may need further treatment.

"Today we have another treatment and another scan maybe because there is a little bit of fluid (inside the joint)," the German said.

"If he can train, for example, tomorrow completely normally then it is an option."

Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino returned from their respective injuries in midweek and Klopp says they are in the frame to face the Saints.

“Christian and Roberto had two training sessions with the team [before Thursday] and usually that is too early to bring them into a situation where you need them, but they did well," he added.

"They were not at the best level they can play, but they did well. Now we are a step further [forward] with them. They are two new options – very important options – for Sunday.”
