Louis van Gaal says the fact that Manchester City are leading the league makes them favourites in the 170th Manchester derby on Sunday at Old Trafford.
City will be the fresher of the two teams this weekend after they played at home against Sevilla in midweek, while Manchester United had to travel to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
But while United have the home advantage and beat the Citizens 4-2 in the same fixture towards the end of last season, Van Gaal believes the statistics favour Manuel Pellegrini's men.
The third-placed Red Devils trail their neighbours by two points in the Premier League table, with City sporting a vastly superior goal difference over Van Gaal's side.
The Dutchman said in his pre-match press conference: "When you look at the facts, they are first and we are third. There is a goals difference, a points difference so they are the favourites, I think."
Commenting on City's come-from-behind win over the Spanish outfit, Van Gaal added: "I think that that it is a good signal for a team. I would be pleased also, of course, when we are doing that and we are doing that also. We were also behind against Wolfsburg and we beat them."
