Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal quarter-final action saw Leverkusen dumped out of the competition by Bremen, while BVB Dortmund also progressed at the expense of VfB Stuttgart.
Leverkusen were defeated 3-1 despite Javier Hernandez opening the scoring from the penalty spot in their clash with Bremen at Bay Arena.
Santiago Garcia had the hosts level just nine minutes later, and Bremen took the lead just before halftime when Claudio Pizarro tucked home a penalty after Leverkusen defender Wendell got himself sent off. Bremen then wrapped up the tie, with Florian Grillitsch striking in the 82nd minute.
BVB Dortmund were quick out the blocks in their 3-1 win over Stuttgart at Mercedes-Benz-Arena, and went ahead as early as the fifth minute through Marco Reus.
Lukas Rupp drew the hosts level in the 21st minute, but Reus then turned creator 10 minutes later, setting up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to put Dortmund back in the lead before Henrikh Mkhitaryan made sure of the win in 89th minute.
