Bayern München head coach Pep Guardiola praised the performance of youngster in Joshua Kimmich following his side’s goalless draw with Leverkusen on Saturday.
Guardiola felt that Kimmich was deserving of special praise for the job he did in helping to keep Javier Hernandez and Stefan Kiessling off the scoresheet at BayArena.
The midfielder was handed a starting berth in the heart of the defence, alongside Holger Badstuber, in the continued absence of the injured Jerome Boateng.
“Kimmich turned in an exceptional display in central defence,” Guardiola told the club’s official website.
“Kiessling and Chicharito didn’t have any chances. He did very well, a huge compliment!”
Reflecting on his side’s overall performance and the result, Guardiola added: “In the first half we had a few problems passing the ball three, four or five times in a row.
“We did a good job after the break. We were more consistent in the second half.”
