Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira is set to join Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning for a reported fee of €50 million.
Teixeira, 26, was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the recent transfer window. However, nothing came to fruition as the Reds refused to pay the Ukrainian club’s asking price, and Teixeira will now ply his trade in China.
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu confirmed the move, but added that Shakhtar will not officially announce the transfer until all the paperwork is completed. The Ukrainian side are taking a cautious approach after Luiz Adriano’s move from AC Milan to Jiangsu fell through despite a €15 million deal having been agreed.
“We have agreed the sale of Alex Teixeira to China, but we will have to wait a bit to finalise the move because of the situation of [Luiz] Adriano. But it is closed from our side, yes,” Lucescu told ESPN.
Teixeira has been in superb form this season and has scored 26 goals and recorded five assists in 26 appearances for Shakhtar in all competitions.
