Michel happy with much-needed win

Olympique de Marseille head coach Michel thought his team were fantastic in their 2-1 win over Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday.

Goals from Michy Batshuayi and Romain Alessandrini secured the win for OM despite Sebastien Corchia pulling one back for Lille, ending a run of five matches without victory.

"I said we would need to win this game and so I am very pleased with our performance today," Michel said. "I opted for Nkoudou to enable us to press high up the field and break quickly.

"We played at a fantastic level tonight and we will need to play like that every time. I am very satisfied with my players especially as we only had one training session to prepare for this game.

"We spoke about the situation and how we needed to win. It is a very important victory as we needed these three points. It is not easy to come and play against Lille, who are a very good side and never gave up."

The result lifts Marseille up to 14th in the Ligue 1 standings.
