Southampton v Aston Villa

Southampton welcome Aston Villa to St Mary's in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday hoping to pile more misery on their struggling Premier League rivals.

A dismal start to the season has seen Villa prop up the table and just one victory from their last 10 matches resulted in manager Tim Sherwood being shown the door at Villa Park, jut nine months into his tenure.

Kevin MacDonald has taken over the first-team duties in the interim and the Scot will be keen to get his reign off to a positive start when the ailing Villans travel to the south coast after another disappointing defeat to Swansea at the weekend.

In team news, Villa have no fresh injury concerns but remain without long-term absentees Jores Okore (knee), Gary Gardner (ankle) and Ciaran Clark (thigh).

The Saints will be without Fraser Forster, Florin Gardos (both knee), Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez (both ankle), though the latter two are expected to be back for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Ronald Koeman's side demolished MK Dons 6-0 in the previous round and the Dutchman will be keen to see his side put in a similar performance against Villa.
