Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Mircea Lucescu has said he will not stand in Alex Teixeira’s way if the attacker wants to join Liverpool this January.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the versatile Brazilian and reportedly had a £24,5 million bid rejected last week.
Lucescu, though, has revealed that Teixeira will not be denied a move, should Liverpool pay what the player is worth.
“Our president knows when it is the time for Teixeira to go,” he told FourFourTwo. “I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship.
“He’s worth €50 million (around £38m). He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique.
“I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, [Angel] Di Maria for example at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.”
Teixeira has made no secret of his desire to join Liverpool, but the two clubs have thus far remained far apart in valuations and a deal is not thought to be imminent.
