Leverkusen and BVB Dortmund both secured big wins in DFB-Pokal action from Germany on Wednesday night.
Bottom-of-the-Bundesliga FC Augsburg strolled to a 3-0 win over second-tier leaders Freiburg with first-half goals from Ji Dong-won and Alexander Esswein before Caiuby sealed the victory soon after the restart.
Leverkusen took no prisoners in their rapacious 6-0 demolition of fourth-tier Viktoria Koln. Julian Brandt, Karim Bellarabi, Javier Hernandez (twice), Stefan Kiessling and Vladlen Yurchenko all helped themselves to goals.
BVB Dortmund made light work of Paderborn with a 7-1 win, but the second-tier side struck first through Srdan Lakic before BVB responded with goals from Adrian Ramos, Gonzalo Castro (twice), Shinji Kagawa, Lukasz Piszczek and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Just one point separates Sandhausen and Heidenheim in the 2. Bundesliga table but there was even less between them in the cup with the score still 0-0 at the end of normal and extra time.
Heidenheim went on to win the eventual penalty shootout 4-3, thanks to Kevin Kraus, Marc Schnatterer, Norman Theuerkauf and Arne Feick scoring from the spot, while Damian Roßbach, Dominik Stolz and Denis Linsmayer were on target for the defeated hosts.
