It was an entertaining outing at Estadi Cornella-El Prat as Espanyol played out a 2-2 draw against Villarreal on Saturday evening.
Felipe Caicedo opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, but Villarreal were back on level pegging when Manuel Trigueros restored parity in the 24th minute.
Gerard Moreno, though, ensured Espanyol would go into the half-time break with a one-goal advantage when he scored five minutes before the interval.
Villarreal would earn the draw late on, however, after Mateo Musacchio made it 2-2 in the 88th minute.
Elsewhere, Granada snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 over Getafe at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes later on Saturday evening.
The hosts raced into a two-goal lead after Fran Rico opened the scoring in the 27th minute, before Youssef El-Arabi doubled the advantage nine minutes later.
Getafe, though, struck back with two guickfire goals of their own when Moi Gomez restored parity just three minutes after Stefan Scepovic had pulled a goal back.
Granada would seal the win, however, when Ruben Rochina restored their lead in the 77th minute.
