Top-five sides Hertha Berlin and Leverkusen could both only manage a draw in their respective Bundesliga games played on Saturday afternoon.
FC Köln 1-3 VfB Stuttgart
Anthony Modeste fired the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 19th minute but Stuttgart rallied from behind to claim the lead as Daniel Didavi levelled matters on 36 minutes before Timo Werner fired them in front in the 51st minute. Christian Gentner made sure of the win for the visitors when he scored seven minutes from time.
Hannover 96 1-2 Darmstadt
Hannover 96 made a flying start to the match and claimed the lead after just ten minutes thanks to Hugo Almeida, but they were unable to add to their early advantage as Darmstadt clawed their way back into contention. Sandro Wagner restored parity on the half-hour mark before popping up again in the second minute of the second stanza to give his side the win.
Hertha BSC 0-0 FC Augsburg
Hertha BSC were unable to make their home advantage count as they played to a goalless draw with Augsburg at Olympiastadion Berlin. Both teams went into the Bundesliga clash in fine fettle but had to settle for a share of the spoils in a closely contested affair.
Hoffenheim 1-1 Leverkusen
Jiloan Hamad's 40th-minute effort gave the hosts the lead at half time, but Leverkusen earned a share of the spoils at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena after Ömer Toprak struck 15 minutes from time.
Ingolstadt 1-0 Mainz
Moritz Hartmann's goal in the 41st minute was enough for the home team to claim maximum points at the Audi-Sportpark Stadium.
