Sporting Gijon striker Antonio Sanabria netted a hat-trick as his side demolished Real Sociedad 5-1 in their La Liga clash on Friday.
• Gijon take the lead after 15 seconds
• Ndi doubles lead in ninth minute
• Vela reduces deficit to 3-1
• Sanabria seals deal with hat-trick
Gijon’s convincing victory saw them snap their five-match losing streak and lift themselves out of the relegation zone and into 17th place on the La Liga standings.
Having been demolished 5-1 by Real Madrid in their most recent La Liga encounter, Gijon atoned for their mistake with a remarkable display against Sociedad.
The hosts took the lead after just 15 seconds when Carlos Carmona slotted the ball into the back of the net when Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli failed to hold on to a low cross.
Dani Ndi made it 2-0 in the ninth minute when he headed the ball in from close range.
However, Sociedad pulled themselves back into contention when Carlos Vela scored to reduce the deficit to 2-1 in the 37th minute.
Just prior to the break, Sanabria restored Gijon’s two-goal advantage when he got past Rulli and added his name to the scoresheet.
Rulli was to blame once again for Gijon’s goal in the 52nd minute as he deflected a shot right to Sanabria, who only had to tap it in to score his second goal of the match.
Sanabria completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute after latching on to a through ball from substitute Alen Halilovic and firing it past Rulli.
