Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone was happy with striker Jackson Martinez' performance against Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey despite not scoring.
Atleti emerged from the second-leg tie 3-0 winners to advance to the quarter-finals 4-1 on aggregate.
Martinez failed to get on the scoresheet himself but proved to be a vital pivot as Antoine Griezmann grabbed a brace afer Angel Correa had opened the scoring.
"I really liked [Jackson Martinez's performance]," Simeone said after the match. "He was an absolute reference point in the match for us, did well with his back to goal and worked hard.
"Hopefully the goals will follow because he has them in him. It's just a matter of waiting and hoping his nervousness doesn't affect us."
In addition to advancing to the final eight of the competition, Atletico current lead La Liga by two points from Barcelona and take on PSV in the round of 16 in the final stages of the Champions League.
Simeone says the club's strength comes from the depth they have in their entire squad relative to their rivals.
"The difference we have with other teams isn't the starting XI but the 18 who are in the squad. The players who come off the bench are important and show important facts.
"Those who start or come on in the second half make a qualitative leap in the games. That's the strength we need in order to compete with the teams who want to compete," he concluded.
