AS Monaco have revealed that they wanted to recall striker Radamel Falcao from his loan spell at Premier League side Chelsea.
The Colombia international has struggled for game time, making just 10 appearances since joining the club during the off-season.
And Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said that the club wanted to cut short Falcao's loan, but the move was scuppered by the striker's injury problems.
Vasilyev also revealed that the club had assessed Falcao's muscular injury and decided it would be better for him to see out the season at Stamford Bridge.
"It's true that we have spoken several times with Falcao," Vasilyev told RMC. "The first idea was that he returned to Monaco to play the second half of the season.
"He came to us, he was assessed by our doctors. Unfortunately, he was injured. We took the decision, it is better that he remains at Chelsea."
