VfL Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost will be out of action for the next six weeks after he broke his metatarsal.
Dost suffered the injury while training and is now expected to undergo surgery. However, there has been no official timeline given on when his operation is scheduled to take place.
The 26-year-old’s injury is a major blow for Wolfsburg as he has scored nine goals in all competitions and also recorded one assist.
Dost had also been linked with a move to Premier League club Newcastle United, but he is now likely to continue plying his trade in the Bundesliga due to the fact that he is set to go under the knife.
“At the moment, we expect Bas will have to undergo surgery,” Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club’s official website. “We had some very positive talks with Bas just before the injury and the result of those discussions was an enormous drive to press on.
“It’s very unfortunate that his plans have now been disrupted. We wish Bas all the best for a speedy recovery.”
Wolfsburg currently sit in seventh place on the Bundesliga standings and have won seven of the 17 games they have played thus far. They are expected to be back in action on January 24 and will take on Frankfurt, who are in 14th place on the points table.
