Deportivo and Sevilla advance

Deportivo La Coruna progressed to the round of 16 in the 2015/16 Copa del Rey after securing a 3-2 aggregate victory with a 1-1 draw against minnows Llagostera on Tuesday evening.

Having recorded a 2-1 victory over the Segunda Division outfit in the first leg of the round of 32 encounter, Deportivo needed to produce another strong performance on home soil to secure their passage through to the next round of the competition.

They just about managed to get over the finishing line after a nervy finish to the clash at Estadio Municipal de Riazor.

Following a goalless first stanza, Deportivo eventually managed to break the deadlock on 69 minutes through Juan Domínguez. On-loan Liverpool winger Luis Alberto sent in an inviting cross from a corner and Domínguez rose above his marker to head into the bottom-right corner from the left-hand side of the box.

However, the hosts' lead didn't last long as Llagostera were handed a way back into the contest ten minutes later when Domínguez, Deportivo's goalscorer, was adjudged to have fouled Quero in the danger area. Jordi López stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick and made no mistake, firing the ball straight down the centre of goal and into the back of the net.

Both teams had chances to win the game late on, but the scoreline remained unchanged as Deportivo held on to claim a 3-2 aggregate win.

At Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, meanwhile, Sevilla breezed through to the round of 16 after recording a 5-0 aggregate win against Logrones.

Unai Emery's men followed up on their 3-0 victory in the first leg with an assured performance on Tuesday night as first-half goals from José Reyes and Ciro Immobile helped secure a 2-0 victory on the night.

This is not to say it was all plain sailing for the hosts, however, as Logrones matched their opponents for chances created, but were ultimately made to pay for a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

Sevilla were handed a late scare when midfielder Iborra received his marching orders on 83 minutes, but it had no lasting effect on the contest as Logrones failed to make their numerical advantage count in the remaining minutes.

Tuesday's Copa del Rey results:
Deportivo La Coruna 1-1 Llagostera (3-2 aggregate)
Sporting Gijon 3-3 Real Betis (3-5 aggregate)
Espanyol 2-1 Levante (3-2 aggregate)
Sevilla 2-0 UD Logrones (5-0 aggregate)
