Minnows Mirandes secured their ticket into the Copa del Rey last 16 draw with a 3-1 aggregate win over Malaga on Wednesday evening.
• Malaga 0-1 (1-3) Mirandes
• Junior Lago gives visitors win
Malaga crashed out of the Copa del Rey after they went down 1-0 against Mirandes in the second leg of their last 32 game at Estadio La Rosaleda.
The hosts knew they had some work to do after losing 2-1 in the first leg, but they couldn't get the breakthrough they were looking for early on and Junior Lago's strike in the 73rd minute secured the win for the visitors.
Segunda Division side Mirandes claimed the scalp of Malaga in the Copa del Rey last 32, beating the La Liga side 3-1 on aggregate after winning the second leg 1-0.
The visitors did the hard work in the first leg as goals from Alex Garcia and Junior Lago gave them the victory, but Malaga were pretty confident that striker Roque Santa Cruz's away goal would prove to be crucial.
However, it was a frustrating night for the hosts as they just couldn't get the goal that would have taken them through to the last 16 of the competition.
Defender Egor Filipenko had an early chance with a header, but it was kept out by goalkeeper Raul while the Mirandes number one also stopped Paraguay striker Santa Cruz's shot in the left corner.
Chances proved to be very hard to come by for the hosts and their hopes of progressing were dealt a hammer blow 17 minutes from time when Ivorian Junior Lago put Alex Garcia's cross away.
Santa Cruz and midfielders Ricardo Horta and Juan Carlos all had shots for Malaga after the goal, but goalkeeper Raul kept a clean sheet on the night and it meant Mirandes booked their place in the next round.
