1. FC Köln were trailing for most of their clash with BVB Dortmund at RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday, but late goals from Simon Zoller and Anthony Modeste saw them steal the win.
1. FC Köln 2 BVB Dortmund 1
Sokratis header opens the scoring
Zoller strikes late equaliser
Modeste hits 90th-minute winner
BVB Dortmund were on the front-foot in the opening stages, and took an early lead when Sokratis Papastathopoulos rose highest to bury Henrikh Mkhitaryan's ball in.
After going behind, Köln found their way back into the game, but it took them until the 82nd minute when a mistake by Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki gifted Simon Zoller with an opportunity, which was gratefully buried by the striker.
Eight minutes later and the Billy Goats took a 90th-minute lead through Anthony Modeste, who latched onto a ball over the top by Frederik Sørensen to smash home the winner.
Dortmund were the dominant side right from kick off, keeping the lion's share of possession early on and pushing the home side back into their own half.
The breakthrough came in the 18th minute through Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who was on hand to head in Henrikh Mkhitaryan's set-piece.
Köln started to get into the game after going behind, and had a few meaningful, if unsuccessful, attacking moves after the 20-minute mark, before Frederik Sorensen forced goalkeeper Roman Burki into a fine save with his header from Jonas Hector's free kick.
The hosts continued to claw their way into the game and as the half-hour mark passed they were enjoying a dominant spell. They even had a penalty appeal turned down when Pawel Olkowski looked to get past Park Joo-ho and went down under a challenge, but it was waved away by the referee.
Having ended the first-half on a positive note, Köln started the second period in a similar fashion, although it was Dortmund who had the first opportunity of the half. Sven Bender sent a clever cross in towards Shinji Kagawa, but the Japan international's header was timid and off-target.
As the hour mark approached, Dortmund were finding their way back into the game and soon had another chance to double their lead through Ilkay Gundogan, who was teed up on the edge of the box by Kagawa but lashed his effort just wide of the bottom corner.
Two minutes later and Köln had a chance of their own at the other end through Simon Zoller, whose shot was deflected away for a corner.
With the match coming to a close, Köln found an equaliser through Zoller after a mistake from goalkeeper Burki gifted the striker with a chance to fire home and level the scores.
And the hosts stole all three points in the 90th minute, when Frederik Sørensen saw Anthony Modeste's run in behind the defence, allowing the French forward to smash home a late winner.
