Neville still searching for first La Liga win

New manager Garry Neville's wait for a first La Liga victory continues after Valencia were held to a 2-2 draw at home against struggling Getafe on Saturday.

Pablo Sarabia gave Getafe the lead over Valencia in only the 10th minute of the match, although Paco Alcacer levelled for the hosts just five minutes later.

An error from Aymen Abdennour allowed Angel Lafita to put Getafe ahead for a second time, but substitute Santi Mina scored Valencia's second equaliser by tapping the ball into an empty net.

All four those goals were scored in the opening 35 minutes, and despite a number of decent chances for both teams in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged.

There was only one goal in the match between Espanyol and Las Palmas at the Power8 Stadium in Barcelona, with the home side Espanyol securing the victory in the 67th minute when Felipe Caicedo latched onto a pass from Javi Lopez before firing into the right side of the goal.

The defeat leaves Las Palmas rooted near the bottom of the table in 19th place, while Espanyol remain in 12th.

Over at Estadio Benito Villamarín, hosts Betis and Sevilla played out to a goalless draw in a match that was short on quality but saw all of 12 yellow cards handed out.

The visitors had two or three half-chances at goal, with Kevin Gameiro probably missing the clearest cut opportunity of the match just after half-time when, having been picked out inside the box, he fired his shot straight at the Betis keeper.

Elsewhere, Deportivo La Coruña beat visitors Eibar 2-0 at the Estadio Municipal de Riazor, despite having left-back Luisinho sent off for two bookable offences.

Winger Lucas Perez – the subject of interest from a host of top teams in Europe ahead of the January transfer window – opened the scoring in the 41st minute for the hosts, his 12th goal of the season.

Luisinho saw red in the 68th minute but centre-back Alejandro Arribas wrapped up all three points with a second only five minutes later.

Valencia 2-2 Getafe
Espanyol 1-0 Las Palmas
Betis 0-0 Sevilla
