German legend Franz Beckenbauer has expressed his disappointment after Bayern München manager Pep Guardiola confirmed he would be leaving after the ongoing season.
Guardiola joined Bayern in 2013 and during his tenure, the Bundesliga club has gone on to win two Bundesliga titles and appear in two Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern are also on track to claim the Bundesliga title this season as they currently have an eight-point lead on top of the standings after 17 games.
However, Beckenbauer lauded Bayern’s decision to appoint former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti as Guardiola’s successor.
The 70-year-old is confident that Ancelotti will have just as much success as Guardiola has during his reign as manager.
"It's a shame that Guardiola will leave Bayern," Beckenbauer wrote on his official Facebook page. "The team as it is, that's all his work. He built this team, his thoughts and ideas are the foundation.
"But that's the way it is. You cannot hold on to someone forever. And Bayern have secured the perfect replacement in Ancelotti."
