Samuel Eto’o is confident that Barcelona forward Neymar will be become the best player in the world once team-mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo are past their prime.
In the ongoing season, Neymar has scored 16 goals and recorded 11 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.
With the 23-year-old already having established himself as a force to be reckoned with, Eto’o believes that Neymar will only have himself to blame if he fails to live up to expectations as his career progresses.
"Neymar has a lot of potential. After the era of Messi and Cristiano, surely he will be number one," Eto’o, who played for Barcelona between 2004 and 2009, told ESPN Brasil. "But he has to remember that it depends on him a lot. He must remember that he hast the talent and needs to train, train and train, because others do not have his talent.
"Neymar is only years old, I am 10 years older than him, but he is a leader in Brazil. I think, with all he has experienced, the pressure, he may be able to give advice to a 35-year-old who plays with him."
Neymar’s talent has not gone unnoticed as he is currently in a battle with Messi and Ronaldo to win the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or. But, clinching the award will be no easy feat for the Brazilian as Messi or Ronaldo have won the award for the past seven years.
