Report: Arsenal poised to swoop for Elneny

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to loosen the purse strings in January with a move for Basel defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

The French tactician is keen to bolster his options in midfield in the continued absence of the injured Francis Coquelin, and is said to be lining up a deal for Egypt international Elneny.

The 23-year-old has been tipped to make the switch to London for a fee in the region of £5 million, although Wenger is not expected to bring in more fresh faces beyond the acquisition of Elneny.

The Gunners will now begin the process of discussing personal terms with the player and hope to have the transfer wrapped up prior to the transfer window opening at the turn of the year.
