A Harry Kane double and Thomas Carroll's first for the club in the Premier League secured a 3-0 win for Tottenham Hotspur over Norwich at White Hart Lane on Boxing Day.
- Tottenham 3 Norwich 0
- Norwich start brightly
- Kane nets first half double
- Carroll adds the third
After weathering some early pressure from Norwich, Tottenham responded superbly through two goals from Harry Kane in the first half.
Spurs pushed hard for a third in the second period and there was an air of inevitability about Carroll's 80th-minute strike to move the home side three points clear of Manchester United in fourth.
Norwich surprised Tottenham early on by playing them at their own game and pressing them in possession high up the pitch, despite playing away from home.
It paid dividents as early as the fifth minute when Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards out, but it was well saved by a diving Hugo Lloris.
The visitors went close again in the 17th minute as Cameron Jerome riggled free in the box to create space for a header, but he couldn't hit the target.
Spurs eventually found their feet in the game and had a double chance to go ahead on 23 minutes as Kyle Walker's shot was well saved by Declan Rudd and Kane sent his effort from the rebound wide.
They did find the breakthrough two minutes later however, as Kane won a penalty after being played in by an excellent through ball from Dele Alli. The English striker dusted himself off and belted the ball straight down the middle to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
For the rest of the first half it was all Tottenham and Rudd had to be at his best to pull off a double save from consecutive headers by Toby Alderweireld and Alli to keep his side in the game.
It would all be for naught in the end as Kane doubled the home side's advantage in the 42nd minute with an accurate strike from a tight angle to give Spurs a 2-0 lead going into half time.
Spurs did not let up after half time and Rudd pulled off another double save in the 57th minute, blocking an Alli shot with his legs before picking himself up in time to punt away a low strike from Erik Lamela.
The home side would find a third in the 80th minute as some superb interplay between Ben Davies and Heung-Min Son found Carroll in space on the edge of the box and the young midfielder fired home to secure the points for Tottenham.
