There has been talk that Philipp Lahm, who retired from international football after leading Germany to World Cup success in 2014, would be making a comeback.
However, according to Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff, this comeback is "impossible."
Bierhoff does not think the Bayern München captain will make an international comeback at next year's European Championships, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
"I talked to him some time ago, but not specifically on this topic," Bierhoff told Deutschen Presse-Agentur.
"However, those who know Philipp, who read his statements, who speak personally with him, know that this is impossible.
"We should all respect his decision," concluded Bierhoff
Lahm made 113 appearances for Germany in a career that lasted 10 years and captained them to a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final in Brazil.
This was the fourth time that Germany had won the World Cup and a first for a reunified Germany.
