Atletico Madrid moved top of La Liga – albeit probably only temporarily – with victory at Rayo Vallecano, while Sevilla were 2-0 winners over Espanyol.
At the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, Atletico Madrid ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Rayo Vallecano to move two points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table.
Still smarting from their 10-2 thrashing at the hands of Real 10 days ago, Rayo did their best to keep things tight throughout the match, although Atletico still created several chances throughout.
It wasn't until the 88th minute that the visitors finally broke through the defence, however, Angel Correa putting the finishing touches on a neat passing move to put his side 1-0 up.
That lead was doubled on the stroke of full-time, as Antoine Griezmann (pictured) latched on to a pass and lifted the ball over Yoel Rodriguez in goal.
Over at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Sevilla beat Espanyol 2-0 to move up to seventh on the table.
Both goals came in the first half. Ciro Immobile opened the scoring on 16 minutes after arriving to meet a cross from Vitolo and Ever Banega added a second shortly before the break, darting into the box and firing a quick low strike into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Levante stayed rooted at the bottom of the table after going down 1-0 at home to Malaga.
Portuguese veteran Duda snatched all three points for his side in the 79th minute after beating the Levante wall with a 79th minute free kick.
The win sees Malaga climb up to 11th spot on the table.
Eibar were 2-0 winners over Sporting Gijon at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua, with both goals coming during a 10-minute period in the second half.
Keko scored the opener in the 55th minute after a composed finish from inside the box and Borja Baston doubled Eibar's lead eight minutes later after some excellent work in the build-up from Saul Berjon.
The defeat leaves Gijon just one point above the relegation zone, while Eibar move up to the top half of the table.
Celta Vigo's Champions League hopes were dented as a Raul Garcia winner gave Athletico Bilbao a 1-0 win at the Estadio de Belaidos – a result that sees Bilbao move to within four points of fourth place themselves.
Deportivo are still very much involved in the hunt for European qualifcation too, despite a 0-0 draw at Getafe.
Las Palmas' survial hopes were boosted by a 4-1 home rout of relegation rivals Granada which leaves their visitors in the bottom three.
