BVB Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter has urged the club to hang on to the services of star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the winter transfer window.
The prolific Gabon international has already scored 27 goals in just 26 matches for Dortmund this season and has quickly become one of the hottest properties in Europe.
The club's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke responded to rumours about interest from Premier League club Arsenal by stating the squad was not reliant on just one player, which is sure to concern many Dortmund fans.
The forward also missed training on Tuesday to attend a private appointment, which has done nothing but fuel speculation about his imminent departure.
However, Ginter revealed Aubameyang plays an important role at the club, both on and off the pitch, and hopes BVB are able to hang on to him for at least the second half of this season.
"On and off the pitch he is very important because he always creates a good atmosphere in training," the defender told Goal.
"In matches he always puts himself at the service of the team and is always good for a goal. We hope that he will remain."
Ilkay Gundogan is another Dortmund player who is being linked with a move away from the club in January, but Ginter hopes both players end the speculation by signing new contracts.
"I hope they [Aubameyang and Gundogan] extend their contracts," he added. "We are all happy when they stay with us as long as possible."
