Bayern München chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Xabi Alonso is interested in extending his contract at the club.
The Spaniard joined the club in 2014 and has impressed in Pep Guardiola's midfield at the Allianz Arena.
His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to the MLS or China, while former employers Liverpool have also been touted as an option.
However, Rummenigge says talks over a new deal are set to take place in the near future, and claims Alonso has indicated his willingness to extend.
"I recently had a meeting with Xabi," he told Sport Bild. "He and his family feel extraordinarily good here at FC Bayern and in Munich.
"He has signalled that in principle he is interested in staying at Bayern.
"We will in the near future give the situation some concrete thought and hold relevant talks with his agent. There is nothing to the rumours that he's planning his departure."
