In a move that has significant consequences for football fans in Southeast Asia, the K League have announced that they will now introduce a new spot for ASEAN players next season onwards.

It is a monumental decision considering it comes just shortly after Nguyen Cong Phuong signed for Incheon United on a loan deal.

That transfer garnered mainstream attention and fans in Vietnam particularly have now started to tune in to the K League to witness their hero in action.

Cong Phuong’s wide appeal has turned heads in Korea Republic to the point that now the player quota system has been altered to include one player from the AFF countries.

The overseas player rule has now been increased to five, and will help tap new International markets for the K League and get more eyes on the product.

Incheon matches in particular have started to be streamed online following interest in Nguyen Cong Phuong from Vietnam fans and that would undoubtedly have played a major part in making this decision happen.

It is also pertinent to note that Vietnam have a Korean head coach in Park Hang-seo who is clearly one of the most popular figures in Vietnamese football now.
