Eden Hazard’s links to Real Madrid refuse to die down, with it becoming increasingly likely that the Belgian moves to Spain in the summer. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher recalled that Liverpool faced a similar problem with Luis Suarez, while he and Steven Gerrard even helped the Uruguayan make his ultimate decision.
“I don’t think you can ever stop players moving to Real Madrid and Barcelona,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I think most players see that as the pinnacle, and it’s happened at both our clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool.
“I think Hazard is too good for Chelsea, right now. He’s that good a player.
“I think of Luis Suarez when he was at Liverpool,” the former Liverpool star continued, “I wanted him to stay, but I knew in my head. This was something I spoke about with Steven Gerrard when he nearly went to Arsenal.
“We actually said, ‘You’re too good for Arsenal. If you’re going to leave, you have to go to Barcelona.”
Suarez ultimately left Liverpool for Barcelona, having been previously linked with a big money move to Premier League rivals Arsenal in 2013. The Gunners had notoriously submitted a £40,000,001 bid in order to lure the Uruguayan to the Emirates, only to see it rejected immediately.
A year later, Suarez officially completed his transfer away from Liverpool, signing for Barcel0na. He has since played two hundred and forty matches for the Blaugrana while scoring one hundred and seventy-five goals.
