Palermo have parted ways with head coach Giuseppe Iachini and have appointed Davide Ballardini to replace him, the club announced on Tuesday.
Iachini paid the price for a poor start to the season that sees them 12th in Serie A with just 14 points from their last 12 games.
Even the 1-0 win over Chievo this weekend was not enough to save the now former manager and the club will be looking to Ballardini to provide fresh impetus to turn their fortunes around.
"Palermo announce that Giuseppe Iachini has been relieved of his duties as coach of the first team," the statement read on the club's official website.
"A heartfelt thank you go to the coach from the president and the club for his work and the goals achieved in the last two seasons, and we wish him the best for the rest of his career.
"Simultaneously, the club announces that Mr Davide Ballardini has been entrusted to the leadership of the first team.
"The tactician from Ravenna, who has led Lazio, Genoa and Bologna, among others, in recent seasons after Palermo, has signed until June 30, 2016."
The timing of the appointment is fairly convenient for Ballardini as he will have two weeks during the international break to become familiar with his squad before his first game in charge against Lazio on November 23.
