Sporting Lisbon midfilder Bruno Fernandes, who has been rumoured as one of the top transfer targets for Manchester United, is one goal away from equalling Chelsea legend Frank Lampard’s record of most goals from midfield.

The 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder now has 26 goals to his name this season after scoring the winner in Sporting’s 1-0 victory over Benfica in the second leg of the Taca de Portugal semi-final on Wednesday.
The 2018-19 season has been the best season for goal returns for the highly-talented youngster with the last season seeing him score 16 after switching to Portugal from Serie A side Sampdoria.
Chelsea legend Lampard’s best goalscoring season came in the 2009-10 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti as Chelsea coasted to Premier League and FA Cup double scoring most goals scored in season (103 goals).

Lampard contributed 27 of those from midfield with the current Derby County manager scoring 22 in the Premier League, three in the FA Cup and one each in the League Cup and UEFA Champions League.
Fernandes has been linked with United, Juventus and a host of other clubs and it looks like whoever is getting him will have a player who can be a creative spark in midfield as well as score a few himself.
