Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is hoping to make his return from injury when Liverpool visit the Etihad following the international break.
The Argentine has been sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained while on international duty last month.
The Citizens have a dearth of options up front with Wilfried Bony now out with an injury he picked up in Sunday's goalless draw with Aston Villa.
Aguero, though, could offer Manuel Pellegrini a huge boost if he is ready to return when the Premier League resumes in a fortnight.
"I don't think I'm too far away now," he told the club's official website. "Physically, I feel good and I've kept as fit as I can during my lay-off.
"I still need to work hard for another week and if not this week, then maybe next, I hope to start training with the rest of the lads and so and my target is Liverpool.
"I'll take things slowly and not rush into anything, but I'm not far away."
