Draxler handed two-match ban

VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler will be sidelined for his side’s next two Bundesliga matches after he was suspended for two matches and fined €10,000.

Draxler, who will miss Wolfsburg’s fixtures against Bremen and FC Augsburg, was sanctioned after receiving a straight red card for catching Mainz 05 defender Gonzalo Jara in the head with a high boot during Saturday's 2-0 defeat.

Draxler apologised to Jara before being sent off, but even though images showed that the 22-year-old had no intent prior to making contact with Jara’s head, the German Football Association (DFB) decided to take action against him.

The midfielder will be available for selection for his side’s Champions League match against CSKA Moscow on November 25, but will only be allowed to make his Bundesliga comeback on December 5 when Wolfsburg take on BVB Dortmund.
