Singapore’s Chaos Theory has become the first Singaporean team to qualify for the Blizzard Overwatch Contender’s Pacific inaugural season.
The team, plus their coach and manager, flew out from Changi Airport on Sunday to Taiwan, where they will compete against 11 of Asia-Pacific’s best Overwatch teams from hailing from countries including South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Japan, and Taiwan.
The tournament features a total prize pool of USD $138,810 .
They will begin the season with their first official game against Talon Esports of Hong Kong.
Chaos Theory founder Drew Holt-Kentwell said he was optimistic about what this means for esports in Singapore.
“Chaos Theory is so proud to be the first Singaporean team competing in the first season of Overwatch Contenders Pacific. It is truly an incredible achievement for a homegrown team to fly the Singapore flag high, whilst competing at such a high level overseas.
“We hope that this inspires more back home to pursue esports seriously, and for more to recognise the growing potential of esports in Singapore.”
The Overwatch Contenders Pacific will be held at the Blizzard Arena in Taipei, Taiwan from March 22 to May 12.
