With the 2017 World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) World finals starting soon, FOX Sports Asia highlights six key matches that you do not want to miss.

Counterstrike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) [General Group]

Daniil “Zeus” Teslenko (Team Ukraine) vs Vincent “Happy” Cervoni Schopenhauer (Team EnVyUs)

Group E, March 14 – 1700HKT

In a clash between CS:GO titans, Group E throws up a mouth-watering tie when Team Ukraine’s Zeus comes face to face with Team EnVyUs’ Happy.

With Zeus leading the Ukrainians, and Happy performing the same role for the French, the two riflers are bound to meet in the heat of CS combat!

Having won the last year’s WESG finals, Happy and his team will be the favourites.

But if there is anyone who can stop them, it will the oldest Major Championship winner Zeus – who won the 2017 PGL Major Krakow at 29 years of age!

Counterstrike: Global Offensive (Women Group)

Mounira “GooseBreeder” Dobie (Those Damn Canadians) vs Zainab “zAAz” Turkie (Dynasty)

Group B, March 16 – 1900HKT

Photos sourced from GooseBreeder and zAAz Facebook

With the 2017 Copenhagen Games title under her belt, zAAz is ready to tangle with Canada’s GooseBreeder.

The 26-year-old Swedish gamer, who is a three-time Intel Challenge Katowice winner (2015-17), will be gunning for the Canadian – who won the competition this year!

Who will triumph in this battle between experience and tenacity? Will vet zAAz gain revenge over GooseBreeder for denying her her fourth Intel Challenge trophy?

Defense of the Ancients (Dota) 2

Jonathan “Loda” Berg (Team Sweden) vs Airat “Silent” Gaziev (Ultima Thule)

Group C Round 2, March 13 – 1530HKT

Group C brings forward an enticing match-up pitting multi-award winning Loda and his Team Sweden against Russia’s Silent.

The two ‘carry’ players both come into the grand finals in good form; with Silent taking home last year’s ROG Masters and Loda placing third at the previous WESG!

With Silent sitting comfortable on the Dota 2 leaderboard, the 29 years old Swede must bring his ‘A’ game if he wants to live up to his nickname L-God!

Starcraft II

Artur “Nerchio” Bloch (Poland) vs Aleksandr “Bly” Svusuyk (Ukraine)

Group C Match 2, March 13 – 1315HKT

It is a meeting between the world number sixth and 14th when Nerchio and Bly meet in the second match of Group C!

Being both Zerg users, the 25-year-old Polish player and the 29 years old Ukrainian should be familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Both of them are 2016 DreamHack Open winners; with Nerchio clinching first place in Valencia and Bly taking second in Leipzig.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (General Group)

Frank “Fr0zen” Zhang (United States) vs Novan “nexok40” Kristianto (Indonesia)

Group D Round 1, March – 1600HKT

East meets West in our Hearthstone key match in the ‘General Group’ category as USA’s Fr0zen comes head-to-head with Indonesia’s nexok40 in Group D.

Since the Indonesian only started in 2014, the 20-year-old is the more experienced player – ranking 18th in the world!

The Michigan native would be wise though not to underestimate his opponent, ranked 111th, who was the top dog at 2016 ESL Hearthstone APAC Winter Open 3.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (Women Group)

Laura “Arya” Molina Quinto (Spain) vs “Yan” Ip (Hong Kong)

Group A Round 3, March 15 – 1500HKT

Photos sourced from WESG

After finishing as the 2017 WESG European Qualifiers champion, Arya has set herself up as the player to beat!

The Spaniard faces a tricky prospect in the form of Group A opponent Yan, ranked 53th in her country, who is the winner of the APAC Finals.

There is little to separate these two competitive female Hearthstone players apart, so you definitely want to catch them in action in what will be a close battle.
